2023 Conference
Concept

The African economies in the past few decades have been battered by decreasing demand for traditional commodities, conflicts and institutional instability, coupled with the cumulative impacts of climate change. Africa is now facing a major demographical challenge. According to recent UN forecasts, the continent is expected to double its population by 2050, from 1 billion to nearly 2.4 billion inhabitants.

Today, 60 percent of Africa’s population lives in poverty, the result of per capita income growth that has averaged just 1.1 percent a year since 1960. However, Africa’s decision-makers in the public and private sectors have an opportunity to rekindle growth and return the continent to a path of strong sustainable and inclusive development.

The Beam

The beam of the theme is on Nigeria being the most populous country in Africa. Nigeria exerts a great influence in Africa due to its population size of about 200 million among others and often referred to as the giant of Africa. The country like other developing countries is faced with several developmental, environmental and socio-economic challenges. The deteriorating economic environment is leaving millions of Nigerians in poverty. The economy is projected to grow by an average of 2.9% per year between 2023 and 2025, only slightly above the estimated population growth rate of 2.4%; this projection raises concerns.

Knowing the opportunities and priorities to ensure accelerated growth and economic development in Nigeria would be a huge factor for private and public sector in meeting economic expectations and thus achieving the Africa 2063 Agenda for Nigeria and the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Conversation

The Conference aim to drive honest conversation and generate dialogue around critical issues. Conversations are weaved around some of the changes we see in today’s governance and leadership in a post-pandemic era; such as sovereign threat, deteriorating communities, challenging economic times across board, separatist agitations, volatile gruesome events, a growing social divide, phobia and rapid-changing technology. Discovering strategies to subdue these risks will be a huge factor for business survival as we strove through the century.

Every entity operates under one economy which is practically the ground of convergence.  This mere fact steers up interest for innovative approach which led to the birth of the Conference of Nigeria Trade Associations in 2018, and has steadily become a platform reckoned for driving sustainable development..
